Brief Background

Ml Sithole is a dedicated Community worker who has been working on this path for over 20 years. He has taken on the responsibility of housing orphaned children in his own home in Waterloo. In addition to providing a safe and loving environment for these children, he has transformed his home into a community centre that offers shelter and support to various other members of the community when they have nowhere else to turn.

Ml Sithole's selfless dedication to his community and his commitment to helping those in need make him a valuable asset to the Waterloo community.

Ml Sithole reached out to HUDA SA for assistance in facilitating some of the projects he runs at the centre as he had no other support system in place.

CHALLENGES AT THE ISLAMIC CENTRE

Before the Waterloo Islamic Centre joined HUDA SA, the centre had limited activities and programs, primarily focusing on the children's madrassah. However, since becoming a part of HUDA SA, the centre has made significant progress in expanding its outreach programs and services, which have had a positive impact on the local community. Some males living around the mosque do not perform Salaah with Jamaat, indicating a need for greater community involvement in congregational prayers.

Lack of interest from the youth in pursuing further studies or seeking employment highlights the importance of motivating and guiding the younger generation.

The absence of madrassah classes for adults indicates a potential opportunity for adult education. The lack of a feeding scheme, which could address the nutritional needs of those in the community.

Madrassah students drop out due to various factors such as substance abuse and illicit relationships, underlining the need for support and guidance for these students.

SUCCESSES AT THE ISLAMIC CENTRE

- The introduction of five daily Salaah and Jumu'ah Salaah.
- Daily Kitaab reading sessions after ESHA.
- Annual programs for ladies and girls.
- Five applicants applying for driver's licenses at SANZAF through HUDA SA
- One sister pursuing a caregiver course.
- Four people received eye tests, with glasses on the way.
